The descendants of
George Flint and Elizabeth (Lee) Flint,
of Holbeach, Lincolnshire
Preamble to the Online Edition
Twelve years have now passed since the release of The Descendants of George & Elizabeth (Lee) Flint, of Holbeach, Lincolnshire (self-published in November 1989, with a second, corrected impression in January 1990), and the work has subsequently been out of print for most of that time. As requests for copies cannot be fulfilled, a reissue will require no apology. By printing the sections in the order in which they are listed in the table of the contents, a pretty satisfactory substitute for the print edition may be obtained. (I have omitted some portions which would not have translated well into an online edition, and the index, which would have required radical modification to be of any use, has for the present time been discarded, although the Search tool available on the site’s masthead should satisfy most needs. I have also, in accordance with my usual policy on this site, suppressed most references to minors.)
In the original Preface, I referred to certain abridgements of the material which had been made in order to save costs. While this ceases to be a concern in the present medium, I am alas in no position to restore material, the sources for which I mostly packed up in boxes over a decade ago. There have since been many other demands on my time, and while I remain willing, as I stated at the time, to receive corrections or additional information, I cannot promise that I shall ever find the time to integrate new submissions into the text.
This being said, certain new materials tend to come to light from time to time, and when it can be accomplished without undue exertion, these will be incorporated into the present ongoing revision, especialy when they correct factual errors. But I cannot emphasize too strongly that this is intended merely as a revision of the existing material, not as an updating of it, and furthermore that the revision makes no claim to being systematic. I shall always be grateful to those who helped nurture this work into inception, but other responsibilities now prevent me from maintaining the enormous correspondence entailed in such an effort. It must now fall upon each branch of the family to continue its part of the record as it sees fit.
