[Press release for Advent Concert, 2005]

Renaissance Voices, the chamber choir conducted by Derek Morphy, returns again this year with its annual celebration of the Christmas season.

On Friday, December 9th, and Saturday, December 10th, at Young United Church (Furby at Broadway), the choir will sing a program of traditional and contemporary carols in a concert called “Out of Darkness … into Light.”

This will explore several aspects of this theme — the darkness of Adam’s temptation and sin, Advent happens at the darkest time of the year, and is a time of waiting and longing, of expectancy. The references to light are more obvious: the “light of the world”; the star over Bethlehem, the guiding light; the shining light of the angels’ visitation to the shepherds. Some are less obvious: the reflected light at the stable door, torches to light the way to the stable.

Come at 7:30 pm and enjoy a hot mulled wine or cider before the performance at 8:00. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for students, and include one complimentary beverage. Available at McNally Robinson Booksellers.
