About Renaissance Voices

Renaissance Voices, conducted by Derek Morphy, is a chamber choir formed in 1995 to perform music of the sixteenth and early-seventeenth centuries. While this period is still a primary focus, the ensemble now has extended its repertoire range into many other choral genres.
As a choir, Renaissance Voices recovers the underlying meaning of amateur performance: we share a deep love for music and for the particular challenges and gifts of choral ensemble work.
The present season features our annual Advent performance at Young United Church. The theme is Faith Stories and Legends, and the audience configuration is the one that we have featured for many years now — café style seating whereby the audience can enjoy hot spiced mulled wine and apple cider. This occasion marked the release of our Christmas CD.
We will be presenting a program of madrigals, glees from the eighteenth century, and part-songs from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries in our spring Concert at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 10. Location — St Andrew’s River Heights United Church (Oak at Kingsway)
Renaissance Voices have participated in several collaborative choral enterprises over the years, including the Winnipeg Singers’ performance of John Rutter’s Magnificat, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s productions of Dracula and Carmina Burana, and the Manitoba Opera’s production of Cavalleria Rusticana.
